Calling all short story writers based in Qatar!

Qatar National Library is launching its Short Story Dispenser, which allows people to print out stories on the spot. Submit your original Arabic or English stories of no more than 3,000 characters by 29th of March 2025, and stand the chance to win an iPad and have your work included in the Library’s Short Story Dispenser at the 34th Doha International Book Fair. The Library aims to promote the work of Qatar’s emerging and established writers through this project.

You may submit more than one entry for consideration. However, please submit only one entry at a time. Selected submissions will also be featured on QNL’s BiblioBoard platform and may be advertised on our website and social media channels.

Submission Guidelines

  • Stories must not be longer than 3,000 characters, including spaces.
  • Submissions must include the author’s name, age, nationality and contact details.
  • The applicant must have the rights to submit the story.
  • Submissions should be in Modern Standard Arabic or English.
  • Stories must be original content.
  • Stories must not have been published commercially.
  • Submissions should be intended for adult readers (18 years and older).
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • Applicants must be based in Qatar.
  • Multiple submissions are allowed.
  • Submissions must be in PDF format.
